Kazak Nikolai Stanislavovich

graduate of 1966

Faculty, specialty:Faculty of Physics

Period of study: 1961-1966

Brief biographical note:

Born in d.Desanka (Uzda district, Minsk region) in a peasant family.

Professional activity:

His works are devoted to crystal optics, nonlinear optics, and laser physics. He contributed to the study and improvement of the efficiency of the processes of frequency tuning of laser radiation in crystals, created powerful laser radiation sources in the region of 220-400 nm with a smoothly tunable frequency. Predicted the nonlinear optical effect of generating an alternating electric field. A number of works are devoted to the study of the propagation of light and ultrasound near special directions in the crystal, and methods for controlling the spatial parameters of these beams have been developed. He investigated the possibilities of nonlinear optical frequency conversion of Bessel light beams.

Professional achievements:

Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2003; corresponding member since 2000). Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1993). Deputy Director for scientific work at the Institute of physics, Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1988); was Director of the Institute of physics (1998-2005); academician-Secretary of the division of physics, mathematics and computer science Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2002-2005); the chief scientific Secretary of the NAS of Belarus (2005-2008); acting Director of the Institute (since 2014);. Head of the International Scientific Laboratory of Optical Diagnostics Fraunhofer-Stepanov (since 2004). He was elected to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus (2008). He was re-appointed Director, then Acting Director of the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2015).
