
The Department of General Physics provides training for first- and second-year students of the Faculty of Physics in the following sections of General Physics: Mechanics, Molecular Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Optics. All the sections of General Physics course include lectures, practical classes, and laboratory work. The Department also conducts classes in Physics at the Faculty of Chemistry, the Military Faculty, the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics. Ten teaching laboratories are available for laboratory workshops.

The Department actively conducts research and methodological work to support the teaching of physics in higher education institutions, developing laboratory practicals, curricula, and teaching aids. Department employees participate in the development of textbooks and teaching materials for comprehensive schools. The Department develops original assignments for the National Physics Olympiads and trains national teams of the Republic of Belarus for participation in the International Physics Olympiads. The Department has established the Physics Olympiad Training Center. Full-time and part-time physics classes are conducted for schoolchildren and university applicants on a regular basis. Based on the results of work with gifted students, specialized collections of Olympiad assignments are published.
